Privacy policy
This explains what personal information FileGooi collects, why, and what you can do about it, as required by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who is responsible
Nitric Industries cc, South Africa, runs FileGooi. For any privacy question or request, email support@filegooi.co.za.
What we collect
- Your account: login name, your name, email address, a securely hashed password (we never store or see your actual password), whether you want announcements, and the IP address you signed up from.
- Your files: the files you upload, their names and sizes, and anything you or your sender types into an upload bay's extra fields.
- Downloads: each time a file is downloaded we record when, and the downloader's IP address.
- Pro payments: handled by Paystack. We receive confirmation of payment and a customer reference; we never see your card details.
- Security: limited technical records (IP addresses, browser type) to stop abuse, such as repeated failed logins.
Who can see what
- Anyone with a file's link can download that file.
- The sender of a file can see when it was downloaded and from which IP address. If you download a file someone sent you, they will be able to see this.
- If you send a file into someone's upload bay, they see the file and the answers you give.
- We don't sell your information or share it for marketing.
Why we use it
To run FileGooi (store and deliver files, keep your account working, email you links and notices), to process Pro payments, to keep the service secure, and where the law requires it.
Who helps us
Paystack processes payments. Our own MasterPenny system sends FileGooi's emails. Our servers are run by us or by hosting providers acting on our instructions. Each may only use your information to provide that service to us.
How long we keep it
- Files are deleted when their link expires (7 days on Free, 30 days or longer if extended on Pro), or straight away when you delete them.
- Download records are kept with your account so you can see your files' history.
- Security records are kept for up to 90 days.
- Your account is kept until you ask us to close it.
Your rights
You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and unsubscribe from announcements at any time. Email support@filegooi.co.za. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
Cookies
We only use the cookies FileGooi needs to work: one to keep you logged in, and one that protects our forms from forgery. No advertising or tracking cookies.
